Car theft gang JAILED after huge £340k car stealing spree

A gang who stole more than £340k worth of cars and watches have been jailed after a huge 'car and key' spree.

Two brothers, Jay and Gez Bennett and a man from Nuneaton, Tony Barrett are now behind bars after admitting to a large scale series of house burglaries across Warwickshire.

The burglars were found to have broken into 22 homes across the region, including Rugby, Nuneaton, Kenilworth and Coventry between December 2016 to June 2017.

Detectives said they carried out a lengthy and complex investigation which found evidence that the trio had stolen several designer watches, and 14 high value cars - just half of which have been recovered.

The Bennett brothers and Barrett had previously admitted conspiracy to commit burglary and were sentenced to a total of 15-and-a-half years in prison on Friday September 8 at Warwick Crown Court.

24-year-old Jay Bennett of Shulmans Walk in Coventry was sentenced to seven years for two counts of conspiracy to burgle, and two incidents of dangerous driving.

He was also banned from driving for a year and until an extended test passed, to be activated upon his release.

His brother, Gez Bennett, 21, of the same address was sentenced to four years for one count of conspiracy to burgle and an attempted burglary at a house in Warwickshire.

22-year-old Tony Barrett of Lutterworth Road in Nuneaton was sentenced to four and a half years for one count of conspiracy to burgle and theft of a BMW car.

Detective Constable Richard Zarcone of Warwickshire Police said: "This conviction is a great result for the victims. Burglary is a very emotive and intrusive crime. To see these offenders behind bars should hopefully help them feel that justice has been done."

But he also warned homeowners to keep their car keys hidden and their sheds and outhouses locked.
